Verizon - Beat the Asterisk

Young Ones Case

Client – Verizon is one of the largest wireless carriers in the United States, offering mobile plans to millions of customers. The assignment was to explore how Verizon could communicate a $25/month plan in a category where offers are often met with skepticism due to hidden fees, changing prices and complex terms.

Problem – Wireless deals are everywhere, but for many people they no longer feel like offers. Especially for Gen Z and Millennials, they feel like puzzles to figure out. Years of hidden fees, price hikes and limitations buried in fine print have turned the asterisk into a symbol of distrust. Instead of clarifying the deal, it signals that something is being hidden.

Idea – Instead of asking people to trust another wireless promise, we turned the asterisk into the enemy. With “Beat the Asterisk”, a retro arcade game, players fight through the very things they distrust in telecom deals. They eliminate hidden fees, outrun price hikes and dodge fake unlimited data traps before facing the ultimate boss: the asterisk itself. Defeating it unlocks Verizon’s $25/month plan with no asterisk attached, transforming skepticism into something people can actively overcome.
